Many of our clients ask us how to properly repair their cast solid surface countertops when they are damaged by scuff marks, scratches, or even cigarette burns. The method is surprisingly easy, and repairs can be completed in minutes with items you find in your local hardware store.

Scuffs and Scratches

Scuffs and scratches created by objects such as markers or keys take just minutes to remove. The number of steps makes it seem complicated at first glance, but it is really very simple.

What you will need:
• 220 grit sandpaper
• 500 grit sandpaper
• Scotch-Brite pad
• Spray bottle filled with water
• Sponge
• Buffer cloth

Step One: Using 220 grit sandpaper, gently remove the mark or scratch using 220 grit sandpaper.

Step Two: Spray just a bit of water onto the damaged area, and using 500 grit sandpaper apply gentle pressure using large circular motions to avoid creating a visible pattern on the surface.

Note: You can use an electric orbital sander but be careful when applying the water to avoid electrocution.

Step Three: Using the green side of a Scotch-Brite pad, rub the entire area once more.

If you have a matte finish solid surface countertop, you’re done!

If you have a polished finish, you have two more steps.

Step Four: Using a sponge and polishing cream or car wax, apply a coat of polish to the surface

Step Five: Go over the whole countertop with a dry buffer.

Congratulations, your counter should now look brand new!
